Longobardi has developed the new “Shinepure” process for cleaning fruit. Results can be instantly seen: fruit skins are shown to be as clean and shiny as if they had been wax polished. The fruit proved to be this clean even in laboratory analyses. Microbiological contamination of the skin is markedly reduced and almost all traces of pesticide residues such as Captan are removed from the surface. It is no longer necessary for end users to wash and peel fruit before consumption. But above all, thanks to Shinepure cleaning, fruit is maintained for a much longer period of time: the rotting process is interrupted, any eventual damage to the fruit skin is localised and stems retain their green colour as if they have just been picked, even after several weeks. The procedure for processing and storing more delicate and easily perishable fruit, such as cherries, is also notably improved. Cleaning may occur during the processing stage with fruit placed under service water, or separately using a special machine for fruit cleaning. Furthermore, for fruit such as apples or pears, a brushing machine is also utilised.
